SASHA IMAN DOUGLAS-NARES

My artistic work involves a multi-layered process of research and physical making, rooted in craft, psychology and sustainability. These lines of thought consistently feel the most urgent to me and I find I am most useful when approaching from an ideological perspective. I begin with an open-ended research question, or with a material process that I want to explore. The physical byproduct of my work involves visualizing the input I receive from the research. My work takes the form of continuous experimentation. I flow from form to form, from material to immaterial, from narrative to abstract. Process takes a central role in the work, product is rarely the total outcome. I work always by hand, by intuition and in community. I reduce the cognitive bias and create via unconscious mechanisms. I seek to uncover that which exists within all of us, and is easily ignored. I want to unearth our shared internal chaos.
